Weekend Notes, May 8 - 14

Calvin turned 17 this week! The day started with a birthday song and ended with a very strange Heavy Hangs.

Oscar gives Calvin Mango Pepsi. Fine, but not Calvin’s favorite.
Calvin wished him a chance to design with his YouTube hero.

Willa gave Calvin 2 boxes of cereal - both open!
Calvin wished her that her drawings would come to life and her siblings would crawl through a dirt tunnel—not walk through her room—to get to the laundry room.

Enoch gave Calvin an empty bag of croutons. It became clear that someone (daddy) didn’t remember the Heavy Hangs gifts. Calvin wished Enoch would breath because he was laughing so hard.

Taran gave Calvin a small container of peanut M&Ms.
Calvin wished Taran a magical head of hair that would both clothe him and help him fly.

Not Pictured: David remembered the big gift—a pair of earbuds from his parents.

Calvin’s dinner was salad and “cake” was fruit smoothies made by daddy.

One candle.

Happy Birthday my boy!

Madison Middle School Band and Choir concert.
Willa did great.
David ROCKED it!!!

HAM!

We learned this week that Calvin can fit an entire cupcake in his mouth at once.
So proud.

Emma went to the Renaissance Fair with friends.
She made/updated her outfit.

She took inspiration from the Scarlet Witch, a Marvel character.

Enoch bought a 6lbs can of corn because he wants a lot of corn for his birthday.
“And I want a ton of corn. I love buttered corn.”
David said, “You’re gonna crap your pants!”

Enoch stands by his choice!

Weekend Notes — May 1

Trying once again to document the Martin Life.  This post is a mess but it’s a mess that exists! The pictures are out of order and non sequential. The kiddos think it’s odd. But I’m excited to make a goal to do this once or twice a month.

May 1-7 Martin Family:

-Emma: hair cut in Lincoln & partied!

-Taran: finished finals @ DSU (2D Design on Computers & Web Development)

-Enoch: finished first year @ DSU with an all-nighter that felt like 3 hours

-Calvin: starred as Edmund in school play of Lion, Witch, & Wardrobe

-Willa: Lived her best life!

-Oscar: Was looking forward to summer.

Taran captured this overhead photo of Hypatia.
He calls it:
Triangle Cat

Calvin had thoughts:

News of his play from Madison Daily Leader

Calvin on stage with Mr. Tumnus.

A friend sent this picture to Calvin.
It’s an example of art reflecting life.

Calvin as Edmund and Ellie Studer as Lucy enter Narnia.

Just another play picture.

Bumpa and Calvin after the Friday night performance.

More play pictures.

After the first performance.

After the last performance.

Cast and crew.

Calvin in super fancy robes with his actor peeps.

My May the Fourth Be with You-Leía buns. I was the only person anywhere celebrating this auspicious holiday and felt a little like a huge nerd but committed to the bit and kept it all day, even at Calvin’s play.

Charlotte and Willa hang out at DQ on a half day. We brought Ollie a Blizzard because he missed it.

Emma got bangs!

Bang Life

Oscar painted DQ windows. He says waited for his “N” to dry the whole time. Finally, after it was o er, he got a Red White and Star Kist ice cream treat.

Emma helped a friend by representing an entomologist at a faculty party. The picture she was given had the entomologist covered in butterflies. However, when she was presented, they used a picture of the lady in an evening gown.

Emma texted all family chains this beautiful picture of the moon over the NB state capital.

Heavy Hangs Hiding — Taran

Picture taking is NOT Taran’s favorite past time.

But he’s really good at giving out wishes.

And hiding from the camera.

Really good.

Super dedicated.

It’s his thing.

And when he can’t take the attention anymore.

He’s out.

But he came back because cake.

He won’t have to do it again for another year.

Blurry Hangs — Emma

The time stamp for these pictures start at 10:06pm.
I’m sure it was a long day and we were struggling to get Heavy Hangs in after a day of activities and dinner.

This is all being said to justify the blurriness of these photos.

The tired looks on our faces.

And to prove that even when tired…

…we have our silly charms…

…our important traditions…

…and love for our marvelous Emma.

No matter the time of day, we’ll make a place to celebrate the one who makes all our birthdays special because she loves us.

Happy birthday Ms. Daisie!

Heavy Hanging — Lisa

The pictures below were taken June 21, 2020.
I first mistook them for a Heavy Hangs photo for my birthday. It’s not but this is my view of the process from the birthday seat.

At first I was bummed when I realized that I didn’t have photos from my birthday.

But then I figured that having my family laughing and hanging together for no reason…

…is the best gift I could ever get.

And a cake from Emma on my birthday is 2nd best!
